What is HR Bowling?

HR Bowling is a comprehensive bowling score tracking app that helps you monitor your performance, analyze your game, and connect with other bowlers. Track your scores, study your statistics, and follow your improvements over time.

Track Your Bowling Score

This is the base functionality of the app - it allows you to register your bowling score while you play using your mobile phone. You can click the pins to remove/reinsert them until they reflect your score. Once this is done you hit the OK button and your score is registered.

  • All Pins button: Useful if you want to remove all pins quickly. Same as clicking all pins one by one, but faster. Great for strikes or when you get a single pin (you can raise the single pin after hitting All Pins).
  • Split detection: All known splits are displayed by name as they occur.
  • Undo button: If you register a wrong score by accident, you can use the Undo button to correct it.
  • Game saving: Final results are registered and saved online for future reference, including the location of the game (which bowling alley was used).

Monitor Your Bowling Stats

In the Performance screen you can see all your bowling stats in a single view:

  • High score: The highest score of all registered games. High score games are labeled with a small yellow crown.
  • Average: The average of all games. Typically climbs gradually as you improve, but old games will naturally lower it down.
  • Strike percentage: How often you hit a strike. Strikes are important, but bowling is more than just strikes.
  • Non-split percentage: How often you end up in a difficult spare shot (using Wikipedia article on bowling splits as reference).
  • First ball average: How much you score on your strike shot. A strike contributes 10, a single pin shot with 9, and so forth.
  • Single pin percentage: How often just a single pin remains on your lane after first shot.
  • Clean percentage: How often you do strikes or spares - how often you clean the frame with your 2 shots.
  • Strike on strike: How often you make a strike after just making a strike.

Study Your Bowling Pin Fall

The pin fall is very important information and a true option to improve your play. The pin fall is ordered by frequency so that pin fall that happens more often are on the top. Underneath each pin fall you will see how many times this combination happened to you and how often you manage to convert this pin fall to a spare.

Review Your Bowling Games

HR Bowling saves all your games in an online database, so you can study your improvements over time. Games are saved and presented by date in the game archive. All total scores from a given date are listed and the total pin fall is calculated. If the game took place on a listed bowling alley from our map, the location is also listed. High score games are tagged with a small golden crown.

Click on a date to see the details - specific pin fall per round. Pin fall from first shot is listed black, pin fall from second shot is listed in white, and pins missed are listed as a white ring. Splits are marked in red.

Follow Your Improvements

In the improvement screen you can compare the latest games toward historic games using the same main KPIs as in the Performance screen. The last half of your games are mapped in green and the latter half is mapped in red, allowing you to see your progress over time.

Spare Improvement Plan

Improving your spare game is essential at all levels - a fact that is often forgotten in the race for higher strike percentages. This screen shows how much you can improve your average if only you clean the frame by better spare game. The number is often shocking!

Alongside this motivation, the screen offers the 3 most expensive spares that are missed. These spares could be a good place to spend practicing time. The heatmap will highlight the pins that are causing spares not to be done.

Find a Bowling Alley Near You

In the map you will be able to see all bowling alleys near you. Click on the red marker to see the name, website address, and other information of the bowling alley in question.

Add Your Favorite Bowling Alley

There are so many bowling alleys in the world, and we try to add as many to our map as we can. However, we might miss your special place, so we've added a feature that lets you register a center by yourself. Hit the add pin button in the upper right corner of the map and position the purple pin at the exact position of the bowling center. In the screen at the bottom you can register the center information and click OK. The bowling alley will appear shortly after we have reviewed and validated the information.

Follow Your Bowling Friends

By connecting to your bowling friends you can follow their games directly and automatically from within the app. Simply move to the social screen and you will see a timeline view with all their games in chronological order. The social feed is organized with an entry per day per friend on all the days where they had activity. If your friends have an avatar you will see their photo there and a list of all the games they played that day.

You can give feedback to your friends on their performance by clicking on their entry and using the thumb up icon to like or comment on their scores. Once you comment or select to "like" your friend, they will be notified by the HR Bowling app.

Adding Bowling Friends

Adding a new bowling friend is easy - simply hit the small button in the upper right corner. There are 2 options to create a HR Bowling friendship:

  • Face to face: Agree to let one of you scan the other's QR code. One person pushes the start QR Scanner button and scans the QR code displayed on the other's phone.
  • Friend code: Send your personal friend code to your new friend by email or SMS. Once your friend receives your code, they copy/paste it to the input field and hit the plus sign.

Now you are friends, and will be listed in the friend list displayed once you hit the friend with a star icon on the top. All future games and messages from you will automatically be shared with your friends - and theirs with you.

Send Messages

You can send messages to your friends to let them know how you are doing, to challenge them, or whatever reason you may have to message them.

Broadcast Your Game

With the broadcast feature found in the lower right corner of the 'floor' you can broadcast your game to all your friends. Once a broadcast game is started, all your friends will receive a notification that you have started a LIVE game in HR Bowling. If they want to follow your game, they need to move to their timeline and the game will be updated shot by shot. This is a powerful feature if you want to follow your club- and/or team mates when playing away from you.

While the game is on, you can comment and like the game as any normal post on the timeline. However, all comments and reactions are only present while the game is live.

Sharing with the World

HR Bowling offers a rich variety of sharing options. You can share all your statistics and all your games to any given social network or other app that you may desire. You can share your key performance chart to Facebook, your Pin Fall Analysis through email, and your games on Messenger. To use the sharing functionality, navigate to the stats menu and tap on the item you want to share, then click the SHARE icon.
